Like the mythical Phoenix, the Oberoi Hotel Mumbai in India was reborn from its ashes. The hotel recently received the first place among the world’s best hotels in 2014, according to the Institutional Investor magazine. The publication surveyed top business executives to create a list featuring one hundred of the best-rated hotels in the world. Read more about luxury hotels and spectacular destinations.

The recognition was greeted with justifiable pride. After a terrorist attack that destroyed the facilities and left 164 people dead in 2008, the owners and executives of the Oberoi Mumbai made a commitment to rebuild it and restore its past glory. After a $45 million restoration, the grand establishment reopened its doors 17 months later, in 2010. Today, it is even more opulent and luxurious than before, and their monumental efforts have been justly rewarded.
The Oberoi Mumbai Hotel is located at Nariman Point, in Bombay´s financial district—India’s most relevant commercial center. The Oberoi combines utmost luxury, contemporary design and exquisite service—with professional butlers—in a superb setting: the stunning and exclusive Marina Drive, overlooking the ocean.
The main attraction at the Oberoi Mumbai is the atrium lobby, with plenty of natural light streaming through its large skylight and huge windows. With walls and floors covered with impeccable white Thassos marble and colossal black granite columns, the spectacular lobby is the focal point of the restaurants and the hotel spa.
“We are very proud that Oberoi Mumbai was selected as the Best Hotel in the World by Institutional Investor. This prestigious award reaffirms our unwavering commitment to providing world-class facilities and unsurpassed service,” said Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, chairman and CEO of The Oberoi Group. “I dedicate this award to our staff—our greatest asset—which works passionately to ensure that our customers always receive a warm, personal and attentive service.”
