Not to be missed is dinner at Oveja Negra (“Black Sheep”) serving modern tapas, described as “unruly,” with inventive sharable dishes, such as its signature Barbocao, lamb shoulder rubbed with chilies and epazote in banana leaves, and truffle mushroom arancinis.
The property is also the home of the uber trendy Vbar that overlooks the bustling Santana Row, featuring innovative crafted cocktails and a stylish atmosphere. Also, a highlight at this beautiful hotel is, Cielo, the hotel’s rooftop bar boasting gorgeous sunset views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, making it the perfect venue for weddings and special events.

The pièce de résistance, however, is the secluded, rooftop pool area, decorated with beautiful wild flowers and plants, featuring a heated salt water pool and hot tub, luxury recliners and bar service – it’s the perfect escape away from the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle. The hotel also has a 4,000 square foot naturally lit, indoor meeting and event space, executive boardroom, and outdoor event spaces, including a spacious open-air courtyard and rooftop area if guests want to host business meetings in a scenic location.

My short, two-night visit to Hotel Valencia was truly an unexpected step above, with unmatched service by the entire staff and a gorgeous setting for anyone wishing for a staycation, relaxing hideaway or a romantic getaway.
Echoing the famous lyrics of the iconic rock song, “You can check out any time you like” but in this case, you may not wish to leave. ■
