The first day of July, on the 10th anniversary of the death of famed actor Marlon Brando, The Brando hotel will make its much-anticipated debut, a luxury resort located in Tetiaroa, the pristine private atoll that the American actor owned in French Polynesia.
Tetiaroa was once a retreat for Tahiti´s royal family, and in 1965 the actor acquired the property. Marlon Brando chose this idyllic island as his private sanctuary after filming here some scenes from Mutiny on the Bounty, the 1962 film directed by Lewis Milestone.
The Brando is an eco-resort that offers carefree luxury in a historically protected biosphere. With access to the island by private plane from Papeete, Tahiti’s capital, the resort boasts white sandy beaches, coconut palms, exotic birds and abundant marine life. Designed to reflect the lifestyle and culture of Polynesia, the complex uses only renewable energies such as coconut oil, solar power and a new air conditioning system based on seawater. Each of the 35 luxury villas has its own pool and private beach area. Aiututaki, another secluded hotel in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
The resort’s Lagoon View Bar provides stunning vistas of the lake and the ocean, and a bar set in the pool, which is perfect for enjoying delightful sunsets. The Beachfront restaurant is exceptional in every way, and its menu includes a varied choice of Polynesian-inspired dishes with interesting reminiscences of French cuisine.
For a more intense dining experience, The Brando offers its guests the elegant Fine Dining Restaurant, under the direction of Chef Guy Martin, owner of the famous three-Michelin-star Parisian restaurant Le Grand Véfour. This beautiful and sophisticated environment dishes out exquisite French cuisine and a variety of wines chosen from among the world´s best.
The Varua Polynesian Spa is one of the resort’s most striking amenities, a natural haven of serenity overlooking a lily pond. There, guests will find sublime treatments inspired by ancient Polynesian traditions with modern techniques. The spa features steam baths, tearoom, relaxation area, yoga and spa suite for couples.
At The Brando, visitors can enjoy a host of other activities, including bike tours around the island, sailing or rowing, swimming, diving amid schools of tropical fish and visits to the bird sanctuary.
Rates at The Brando start at $2,500 per person per night. But the price of some of the exclusive villas with special “all inclusive” offers start at $4,095 per night, and include food and beverages, daily spa treatments, excursions and all other activities. ■
