This occasion marks the first major collector’s car auction held in Manhattan in over a decade. In the words of Maarten Ten Holder, Sotheby’s Executive Director for the Americas: “as the first car auction in Manhattan for over 10 years and one of the most significant ever held, this is set to be an unprecedented and historic event.”
Robert Myers, Chairman and Founder of RM Auctions remarked: “our upcoming New York sale will celebrate the historic importance of the automobile—a singular achievement at the crossroads of art, technology and innovation—at the same time paying tribute to the creativity, styling and imagination of the world’s leading coachbuilders”.
As a prelude to the auction, on November 19th and 20th, Sotheby’s will hold an exhibition of the 35 lots on its 10th floor gallery. The auction house expects to raise $ 50 million with the sale of these magnificent automobiles. ■
