In 2008, Alissa and Allan Cruz, two successful real estate professionals living in Calabasas, California, realized there were no luxury options for the care of their beloved puppies: a chihuahua and a miniature pinscher. After much thought and careful planning, they formed a company called D Pet Hotels and built a luxury hotel for dogs in a former Hollywood movie studio.
At D Pet Hotel, all dogs have access to modern luxury suites, spacious indoor parks, a nursery, high-end boutiques where the owners can buy jewelry, toys and food from prestigious brands.
Nine years later, this new concept designed only for pets has been so successful that D Pet is now a four hotel chain, with subsidiaries in Austin, New York, Scottsdale and Los Angeles. The same rules apply to all D Pet Hotels offering exclusive and high level comfort to its privileged canine clients. They provide a unique experience thanks to a clean, safe and fun environment in which dogs play, relax and are thoroughly pampered.
At D Pet Hotel, all dogs have access to modern luxury suites, spacious indoor parks, a nursery, high-end boutiques where the owners can buy jewelry, toys and food from prestigious brands such as Evo, Merrick and Weruva; they enjoy a spa with Happytails products, transport with a private driver in Lamborghini and Porsche sports cars, photo sessions and a veterinarian available 24 hours a day.
“One of the things that I learned from the beginning is that this was much more than taking care of the dogs, it was making their owners feel good knowing that they were leaving their beloved pets in good hands, which allowed them to enjoy their vacations or relax during their necessary absences,” says Alissa Cruz.
D Pet Hotels has different suites (Standard, Sensational and Uber), all have a flat-screen TV with dog-themed movies, special beds, fluffy bone-shaped pillows, toys and room service that includes food prepared by a chef specialized in nutrition for dogs. In addition, the hotels include a gym with exercise tapes, a personal trainer, walks in the area and amenities similar to conventional 5-star hotels. As for prices, a one-day stay easily exceeds US $ 300.
At D Pet Hotels, dogs are grouped by size and temperament in separate rooms where they can socialize with each other. Toys and treats are not allowed in these rooms with rubber floors because they can cause dogs to behave aggressively. Instead, they have the freedom to bark as much as they wish.
Like all luxury establishments, these hotels have their own beauty salon featuring different treatments, which can include manicures, as well as straightening or curling the dog’s hair.
D PetS Hotels has a clear premise: to offer its distinguished guests a home away from home without sparing expenses and ensuring their well-being. ■
