What sets the Silent 55 catamaran apart from the rest? To boaters surprise this stylish catamaran can navigate in cruise mode up to 100 nautical miles per day, mobilized only by solar energy, making it a one of a kind boating experience.
The gentle push of the sun
Its motorization is hybrid; solar energy is captured through 30 high-efficiency photovoltaic panels accumulated in lithium-ion batteries that provide 10 kilowatts of power, along with two impetuous diesel engines that allow it to reach speeds of up to 15-20 knots, and a maximum speed of up to 25 knots for quick passages in its power version setting.
Although the power supplied by solar energy is reduced, compared to diesel engines, it is sufficient to sail for many hours a day at normal speed. The synergy between both energies -electric and diesel- provides the Silent 55 with the possibility of alternating between both types of power with ease.
Comparative advantages
The normal thing in many yacht models is to stop at a marina every two or three days to recharge its batteries and add water. The larger ones have greater autonomy but the energy it needs to produce water, internal air conditioning and motor power, requires a continuous use of combustion engines with the drawbacks of noise, vibration and leaks.
The Silent 55 is easy to clean, silent and does not spill oil for long amounts of time. In the event of prolonged periods of sunless navigation, the use of diesel engines will, in addition to mobilizing the catamaran, recharge the batteries automatically thus balancing the limited use of diesel propulsion with an equal or greater use of electric propulsion. The result equals total silence and autonomy.
The different versions of the Silent 55
The Silent 55 (16.13 meters) a cruiser ship, the Silent 65 (19.43 meters) a power ship and the Silent 75 (24 meters) a sailor ship, differ in terms of power and displacement. In addition, each of these different versions, offer different internal distributions of 3, 4, 5 and 6 cabins as well as VIP cabins, en suite bathrooms and amenities according to the taste and need of its purchasers. As a result the value of Silent 55 (16.13 meters) has been estimated at an initial cost of 1.6 million dollars.
The mobility of the future is green
Eco Marine Global, the producers of Silent 55, is an international trading company based in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. It was founded in 2016, by Markus AW Hoehner and Ahsan Khan, dedicated to the production and sale of exclusive solar yachts and the development of water transport systems for a sustainable future.
They have also developed the Solar Sea Bus, which can hold up to 50 to 100 passengers, offering a means of sea transport free of emissions and noise that is ideal for circulating through rivers, canals, lakes, as well as nature reserves and port cities. ■
