Since its launch in 1925, the Rolls Royce Phantom has been identified as one of the most luxurious cars on the planet. In keeping with this tradition, the BMW Group presented the Phantom VIII, in 2017. It is a smooth and silent ride with an artful design, setting it apart from the rest.
The Phantom VIII offers the most lofty finishing materials and craftsmanship detail that catch the eye and the sense of touch in its leather upholstery, natural woods and polished metals that transmit solidity and elegance.
Features:
- Biturbo V12 engine with a capacity of 6.75 liters and 563 horsepower rating.
- 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, maximum speed limited to 155 km/h.
- 8 speed transmission with satellite control.
Smooth: At first glance, the Phantom VIII does not seem to show significant differences with respect to its predecessor, but in reality, it is a completely new car. Its aluminum structure is more rigid and lightweight, which affords higher quality in terms of ride comfort, combined with a computerized suspension setup that calculates terrain conditions in advance, in order to adapt its hardness and generate the least possible impact within the passenger compartment. One of the main objectives of the brand was to achieve a smooth and delicate ride which is referred to as the “Magic Carpet Ride.”
Silent: On the other hand, Rolls Royce set about building the most silent passenger compartment on the market, for which purpose double layer crystals, new aluminum seals, thousands of meters of sound insulation materials and “Silent Seal” tires were added. The result of all this engineering work is the most quiet and least vibration passenger compartment in the segment, which are benefits that are synonymous with luxury for the British Car company.
Art: In its interior, the Phantom VIII offers the most lofty finishing materials and craftsmanship detail that catch the eye and the sense of touch in its leather upholstery, natural woods and polished metals that transmit solidity and elegance. In front of the passenger seat, the most successful aesthetic detail of the vehicle can be found: the flashy dashboard, referred to as “The Gallery”, for which the owner shall be able to choose a unique work of art for their car.
In addition to the three aspects of the passenger compartment that distinguish it, its exterior design has been streamlined, offering more rounded and smoother lines, while the front stands out with a higher grill and daytime running lights across the contour of the front headlights, which have been improved by applying the most powerful light projectors in the automotive industry (650 meters).
With a V12 engine having 563 horsepower and 6.75 liter capacity, the performance level of the Phantom is excellent. We cannot fail to mention that its smart gearbox features satellite control, which according to the geo positioning of the vehicle, chooses the most appropriate gear to keep the engine below 2,500 rpm, thus avoiding vibrations and noise.
There are few brands and models that are able to stay on top of their industry over the span of many years. Rolls Royce has achieved this with its emblematic model and, fortunately, the Phantom VIII is no exception. ■
