Blackberry has maintained a die-hard following of faithful users while surviving stiff competition from the iPhone’s quest for world domination. To remain a contender, the company has combined improved technology with a luxury makeover in their new BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981. Created through a joint effort between Research in Motion (RIM) and the Porsche design team, it was recently awarded “Smartphone of the Year 2012” at the renowned Plus X Award. While offering Blackberry lovers such features as a faster processor, more storage space, touchscreen option and a wide backlit keyboard, the P’9981 comes in a sleek stainless steel case with a leather back that boasts all the style and glamour the exclusive automaker is known for. To complete Blackberry’s new look, Porsche added a unique custom-designed metal keyboard and menu icons.
With a price tag of around $2,000, the P’9981 comes preloaded with Wikitude World Browser that allows you to access information from around the world. Input your location and the application reveals such data as restaurants and reviews, ATMS, shops, special offers, and even landmarks. You can also identify places around you by simply pointing the phone’s camera at it. In addition, and thanks to BBM™ integration, you can see if any of your contacts are nearby. ■
