Stepping on the segment of family sport cars, Mercedes-Benz has just announced the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, which goes to the market in 2019. This sedan is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 m/h in 3,1 seconds and reach up to 195 m/h in its fastest version.
For the first time, the sports division of Mercedes-Benz, AMG, has deviated from its regular path with a family vehicle. In recent years, its work focused mainly on high performance coupes such as the AMG GTS, the CLS 55 AMG, AMG SLS and, recently, the AMG G 65.
The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé retains its sports DNA in details such as the aggressive grille of vertical slats, typical of the AMG line, and a muscular hood. Its low cabin allows for a sharp-angled windshield line, while its smooth curves have a clear coupe style and fastback aesthetic.
This sports profile is sober, though, and it’s related to successful models like the Porsche Panamera, an undisputed leader in this segment.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé offers two types of motorization. The less powerful version comes equipped with a 6-cylinder, 429 hp engine, which is combined with a 48-volt electric engine which adds up to 450 hp. Both engines achieve excellent consumption records, an acceleration from 0 to 60 m/h in 4.4 seconds and 174 m/h maximum speed, resulting in very interesting performance records.
But for those who want to experience a truly radical sports experience, the V8 engine with 4.0 L and 577 hp is offered in the G63 version or 630 hp in the G63S version. In the V8 versions all the mechanics are adjusted to the needs of the high performance on the track. For example, the automatic 9-gear gearbox replaces the vector selector with a multi-plate clutch. To which exclusive equipment is added as the integral steering in the 4 wheels and brakes of perforated ceramic discs.
The interior of the AMG GT 4-Door combines the latest technological advances with elegant and purely sporting materials. A perfect example of this feature are its seats covered in natural leather and Alcantara leather with visible stitching. When curves are taken at high speed, the seat sides increase in size to offer greater support.
Behind the leather-covered steering wheel, you’ll find one of this car’s two highly technological 12.3-inch screens. These screens show a control panel and the infotainment system characteristics of Mercedes-Benz. Finally, the low center console offers touch commands with sensors and an exquisitely designed gear selector.
Family vehicles with sports benefits continue to gain ground in the luxury car market. Among them, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is distinguished by a sober balance between style, safety, power and speed. ■
