Lotus is respected for their tradition with Formula One as well as for their prototypes and production cars. Now, the iconic British brand introduces its first motorcycle, which maintains and exalts the brand’s ideals and principles.
The Lotus C-01 is an impressive bike with 1,200 cubic centimeters of capacity and 200 HP, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds and reaching a final speed of 200 mph. Daniel Simon, who created the prototypes fro the film Tron: Legacy, Prometheus and Oblivion, developed the design of this two-wheel colossus.
At first glance, the lines and color combinations seem imbued in a sort of retro aesthetics, but if you look closely, you will see that, in fact, it has been conceived on the basis of futuristic ideas, with an impressive front air intake, a sporty driving position, competition wheels and rims, and suspension systems with modern and aggressive lines.
This wonder that bears the Lotus signature is produced by Kodewa, the German manufacturer of racing motorcycles— in collaboration with specialists from the Holzer Group— and will be built with state-of-the-arts materials, including titanium, steel and carbon fiber.
With a weight of just 440 lbs., its engine is a modified version of the 1,195 CC twin-cylinders used in the KTM 1190 RC8R. “We set out to create a work of art in motion,” said Güther Holzer, CEO of the Holzer Group. “This bike brings to the market the perfect combination: cutting-edge technology and truly stunning aesthetics”.
Opponents of the C-01 have criticized the Lotus proposal mentioning that the design is too radical. They also point out some drawbacks related to performance, ease of handling and aerodynamic profiles.
However, this new jewel presented by the British firm confirms, once again, its avant-garde position and commitment to the most refined design. For Lotus fans and lovers, the good news is that for $137,000 they may own an incomparable motorcycle as well as an exclusive model, as only 100 units will be produced. ■
