Land Rover unveiled its new model Range Rover Sport SVR which emerges as a fast, powerful and electrifying sports utility vehicle. The new automobile does not forget its tradition and preserves the 4×4 off-road conditions at the highest level.
In direct competition with other luxury SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne or the BMW X6, (Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maserati will soon have theirs). Land Rover introduced in recent years its Range Rover Sports line to great acclaim with more than 500,000 units sold throughout the world. However, the British automotive set out to create vehicles that would integrate to its product range, but highlighting their performance, applied technology, design and exclusivity.
The Range Rover Sport SVR is based on those premises and comes with an unprecedented 551 horsepower generated by a muscular 5 liter supercharged V8 turbo, which combined with its 8-speed transmission accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 162 mph. To demonstrate its capacity, the Special Vehicle Operations Jaguar-Land Rover office decided to test the model at the Nürburgring circuit, where it reached a record time for the SUV segment with only 8 minutes 14 seconds.
Achieving such speed in a car this size required using an aluminum frame that reduces weight by 39 percent while reinforcing the rigidity of the structure. In addition, they have added exterior design details that enhance the aerodynamic coefficient, including the air intakes on the hood, the front bumper and side fender, which work together with the tail spoiler— unique to the model—and the diffusers on the rear bumper. All this is combined with a cosmetic redesign that highlights the strong profile that defines this model. See here the best cars in the market.
The highest point in terms of applied technology is the 8-speed automatic gearbox, which has been re-synchronized by 50 percent, allowing a dynamic acceleration and a more efficient engine braking.
Additionally, this SUV has an exhaust system of four outputs managed by electronic control valves that give it an unmatched acceleration sound quality. Also noteworthy is the intelligent drive and suspension system that controls stability and traction, adapting to the needs on the road.
The interior of the Range Rover Sports SVR has been completely redesigned with sports seats that provide excellent lateral support, upholstered in Oxford leather with visible stitching, a feature that is aesthetically replicated in the rear seats. All this comes accompanied by details in aluminum and carbon fiber in the panels, which reflect the typical elegance, distinction and sportsmanship we have come to expect from the brand.
The Range Rover Sports SVR is an exclusive model that will be available in late 2014 at a cost of about $111,000. It certainly is a fair and competitive price for a vehicle of such quality. ■
