It has a 3.8-liter boxer engine, which means that it has 400 cc more than the Cayman GTS, which until now was the top of the range. The benefits this engine delivers are among the best in its category: it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 183 mph (295 km/h). This means that it accelerates five tenths faster, and its speed limit is 6 mph (10 km/h) greater than the GTS. It even accelerates faster than the 911 Carrera S, from which its engine originates. All this comes at a reasonable cost: it can travel up to 23.52 miles per gallon.
The Cayman GT4’s performance numbers are an invitation to step on its accelerator, and Porsche is aware of it. According to the company’s calculations, four out of five customers also use their GT model in the circuit- and for that reason they outfitted the new coupe to perform well in any situation.
For starters, there are changes in the design (so much so, that at first glance it may seem not to belong to the Cayman series). The chassis itself has been redesigned to optimize the aerodynamics and thus enhance its performance: the height has been lowered by 30 millimeters and it is the first Cayman with downforce on both axles.
Furthermore, the three air intakes located on the front and its impressive rear spoiler also contribute to improving the performance of the vehicle. On the other hand, if the customer doesn’t find it sporty enough, Porsche offers the option to acquire the Cayman GT4 with a special configuration. A ceramic brake system, ‘bacquet’ type seats made of plastic reinforced with carbon fiber, the Sport Chrono package with customized Track Precision or the package called Sport Club are some of the elements added for driving the circuit.
The new Cayman GT4 is undoubtedly a great way to enjoy a sporty drive at the wheel of a Porsche for less than the cost of the most basic 911. The exciting seven minutes and 40 seconds it achieved at the Nurburgring lap give a good account of the promises of this unique coupe, as good for everyday use as for the circuit. Looking for a circuit to enjoy this model? We offer you four incredible ones found in Europe and the United States. ■
