Maybach has ceased to be a Mercedes-Benz model to become a sub-brand that represents the highest level of luxury and technology. Its commercial revival places it among the best-performing luxury brands in the world. Following on its newfound success, the company launched its electric two-seater prototype in 2017.

Whenever we speak of prototypes or “concept cars,” we should keep in mind that these projected units are born in automotive research labs, and their esthetic or technological advances could be some four or five years ahead of final approval and production.
Having said this, the Maybach 6 Cabriolet shows a daring design that reclaims the generous proportions of vehicles from the first half of the 20th century, with an enormous front profile and an extended trunk line. In spite of being a two-seater, the prototype measures almost 19 feet in length, and the brand’s intention is to recover the splendor of the art-deco designs of the coupes of long ago.

In the front, we find a prominent grille with 25 vertical chrome bars that will identify the brand in the near future. On each side, there are subtle rising headlights that replace the large-proportioned headlights currently in use. The side of the car shows a smooth, organic line that descends from the center to the extremes. In fact, the sides of the Maybach 6 Cabriolet give the impression of being made from a single piece of metal, interrupted only by the very elegant 24-inch chrome wheels with 26 concentric rays held together by a single center screw.
The model’s interior delivers luxury components with futuristic functionalities. The Napa leather seats feature a rhomboid pattern with buttons, similar to a Chesterfield sofa, but each button has a tiny luminous insignia in the center. The floor, pedals, and climate system’s vents are covered in wood with open-pore details in aluminum and rose-gold metal.
The controls are 100% tactile and placed in touch screens and projection displays that can be found in the instrument panel, the center console, and at the base of the windshield. The translucent tunnel that separates the passengers showcases blue fiber optic cables that glow according to the energy being used at each moment.

The vehicle has biometric sensors that anticipate the driver’s needs, synchronization with mobile operating systems, autonomous driving systems, and an innovative electric motorization with 750 HP distributed among 4 engines. According to Mercedes, the model can reach 155 mph and accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds. The good news is that the batteries have enough power for a range of over 200 miles, and it has a revolutionary system that allows recharging for an extra 100 miles in just 5 minutes. Such comparative advantage can redefine the electric car market forever.
