The Los Angeles Auto Show in the United States introduced a the new Lamborghini model called Huracán LP 580-2. The powerful supercar was specially designed to offer the driver a fun ride since it is the brand’s only street model with rear wheel drive.
Other Lamborghinis offer wheel drive combined with sophisticated traction distribution systems and stability controls, which allow them to manage safely the awesome power of their engines.
The rear-wheel drive option is only offered in circuit race cars. It gives the car a more sporty and extreme performance, allowing side slippage and behaviors similar to those of a racing car.
Lamborghini created the Huracán LP580-2 to please the most avid costumers looking for that competitive experience. It comes with rear-wheel drive and an impressive engine of 5,200 cubic centimeters (0.183 cubic feet), ten cylinders in V, 580 hp and an impressive torque of 397 lb/ft (538 Newton/meter).
Compared to the Huracán wheel drive, the power and responsiveness have been reduced. The weight reduction, 33 kg (72.12 pounds) from the change of the traction system and the weighting scheme, which is now 40% front and 60% rear, allow the new Huracán to accelerate from 0-100 km / h (0 to 62 m / h) in 3.4 seconds. It can reach a top speed of 320 km /h (199 mph).
But beyond the tiny decrease in acceleration records from previous versions of the Huracán, which was able to reach 325 km/h, the difference lies mainly in the driving experience.
On acceleration, this new model shows a rear impulse that thrusts the driver into his seat, and when taking curves allows placing the vehicle on its side, making spectacular lateral slides without ever losing control and showing the power of the rear wheels pushing with tremendous power to straighten the course. It is an exciting and thrilling experience for the driver.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show, we learned that this track sports performance continues to be monitored by the same dynamic security systems from previous versions, which control excesses but without diminishing the thrill of racing.
With this street version, the Italian automaker offers a less radical ensemble with less aggressive and not so futuristic sporty lines, since this is its introduction model and their aim is to sell a lot of units from a line design that will last over time.
With a price of US $165,000, the new Lamborghini competes directly with other luxury sports, such as the Audi R8, and the Porsche 911 Turbo by the German Volkswagen, but with the added value of offering the essence of European supercars from traditional car manufacturers like Ferrari or McLaren. It is certainly an interesting option, which offers not only luxury, exclusivity, and style, but also lots of fun. ■
