Elegant and sophisticated, the Chiron gets its impressive power from a huge 8,000 cubic centimeters quad-turbo W16 engine, which thanks to its functional redesign and efficient use of its 4 turbo-compressors generates an incredible torque of 1,600 n/m, available between 2000 and 6000 rpm. This allows the car to reach incredible speeds in just seconds, for that reason its engineers decided to limit it to 260 mph (420 km/h), the speed that they considered sufficient even though the car is able to run faster.
When it comes to design, the Chiron clearly shows the Bugatti look, but it has been developed following the brand’s new design language, where the shape of the vehicle must be adapted to the performance needs to offer the user the best possible sporting performance.
The model is inspired by the iconic Type 57SC Atlantic, with a short front that includes four elongated headlights in a horizontal line, giving it an aggressive and elegant look.
The sides of the Chiron are dominated by curves and smooth lines in perfect harmony, which are only interrupted by huge tires and competition wheels, specially designed to control the awesome power of the engine, which is distributed from the all-wheel drive to all four wheels. The sportier side of the design is in the car’s rear, which shows a huge robotic spoiler that rises and rotates, adapting to the speed and enhancing its aerodynamic profile.
The interior is as luxurious and elegant as the interiors of its predecessors, but with the advantage of being more spacious: it offers more legroom and larger seats, as well as a higher ceiling.
As is the case with the vast majority of today’s high-end sports cars, this Bugatti has different modes of use, which can regulate the floor clearance and the hardness of the suspension and steering, as well as traction type and modes of consumption: the Chiron offers 5 modes, Lift, EB Auto, Autobahn, Handling and Top Speed, but the latter is the only one that allows the driver to reach maximum speed.
On the other hand, if the driver wants to activate the fastest mode, he will need to turn a specific knob. This security measure prevents total power mode to be selected by mistake, given the enormous power of the vehicle.
With a price of around US $2.5 million and production limited to just 500 units, Bugatti has managed once again to present—among its product line—the most powerful, exclusive and striking automobile in the market. ■
