The iconic South Bank Tower is becoming one of London‘s most modern and luxurious buildings. In June 2010, CIT Group, a British real estate and development company, together with Jadwa Investment, a capital investment firm from Saudi Arabia, bought the property for more than $96 million.
The South Bank Tower—formerly called King’s Reach Tower—is the tallest building in Southwark’s Stamford Street. Designed by architect Richard Seifert, it was originally a 1972 structure with 30 floors or 364 feet in height. The renewed South Bank Tower will rise to 41 stories above the River Thames and will become a mixed-use complex featuring 191 luxury apartments, 219,500 square feet of office space and about 35,500 square feet of retail. New outdoor spaces will be added, including a 10,000 square-foot roof garden with sauna, a fully equipped gym, and a 65 feet long swimming-pool. The tower, with 11 new floors, will soar 423 feet toward the sky, and will host a variety of luxurious 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, as well as duplex penthouses on the higher floors. With stylish and modern interiors, each apartment comes with all the amenities, and a unique and intelligent layout conducive to a comfortable and luxurious lifestyle. It will also offer 24-hour concierge service and security, a screening room and a meeting hall to conduct business.
Facing the river, the beautiful project attracts much interest because there are no alternatives for this type of apartments in the area. The South Bank Tower is in a prime location in the heart of the city, close to major business centers, shopping, and entertainment options like the Royal Festival Hall, the Globe theater, the Tate Modern gallery, and the iconic Sea Containers House, currently the Mondrian boutique hotel.
Apartment prices start at $1.7 million and can reach upwards of $4.5 million. Thanks to modern full height windows, the units offer exceptional vistas of London landmarks, from St. Paul’s Cathedral and the London Bridge to Westminster palace and the London Eye.
The design and architecture of the project focus on energy efficiency. The developers aim to meet the highest standards of quality of life and provide first-class finishes with a stamp of luxury and exclusivity.
Developed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, one of the most experienced architectural firms worldwide, the new South Bank Tower joins a select group of skyscrapers on the south bank of the River Thames that includes the Shard, designed by architect Renzo Piano, and the One Blackfriars, by the firm Ian Simpson Architects. ■
