Petra Island, located in Lake Mahopac, 75 miles north of Manhattan, has plenty of charm: its 11-acre surface is heart-shaped and, it is home to an architectural gem created by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright. The spectacular villa, whose design is integrated into the surrounding environment, is an indisputable example of the masterful architect’s philosophy of organic architecture.
The 5,400 square-foot villa consists of a main residence, a guest cottage and an art studio. The guest cottage, just over 1,000 square feet, was designed and built by the American architect in 1950, while he was building New York’s Guggenheim Museum. The main home, with a total area of 5,000 square feet, was finished after the death of the award-winning architect, according to his original plans. The house’s design blends into the island’s rocky surface as if it were part of the landscape. This historic island property can be acquired for $12.9 million.
