The game of billiards, a symbol of leisure for aristocrats since the 15th century, has become a popular modern pastime. The main challenge for the Italian design label Calma e Gesso from Busto Arsizio, Lombardy, was to transform a product with a long history, but little evolution, into a work of art for the 21st century: the Filotto pool table.
Designers and brothers Davide and Gabriele Adriano from Adriano Design created for Calma e Gesso a pool table that could be considered one of the most spectaculars in the world. Its call to fame is a series of innovative solutions that resulted in a type of glass of extraordinary strength and transparency. With its sophisticated design, the new table has left behind the bulk associated with classic pool tables to bring new life with a modern and stylish look.
The new Filotto was introduced at the Fuori Salone Milan Design Week 2014, one of the most prestigious design shows in Europe, and is already enhancing the headquarters of Ralph Lauren in New York.
Innovative technological results and modern production techniques are the basis behind Adriano Design’s philosophy, a firm that departs from the traditional rules—or reinvents them—to create beautiful and exclusive products. Its Italian heritage and their commitment to scientific research are evident in their design, construction and labor.
The magic of the Filotto pool table lies in its crystalline structure and the stainless steel frame that is both adjustable and detachable, and strong enough to support the massive crystal plate and the solid slate play surface. The table weighs 750 pounds, but looks like it is floating on its crystal legs. See here our variety of luxury toys.
The stunning beauty of this unique collector’s piece can only be compared to the pleasure of playing in such a masterpiece of Italian design. ■
