Blas Hervías, a Spaniard from Cadiz, discovered one of those rarities of nature that have completely stunned the gastronomic world: snail roe rom the Helix aspersa variety, which, for its perfect white pearly color is nicknamed “Aphrodite’s pearls.” The scarcity of these eggs makes them unique and highly coveted. Although there is an abundance of these garden snails, the exclusivity is in the fact that they only mate once a year, and most of the specimens die in the process. Several renowned chefs, including Ferran Adrià, have already tried this delicacy and are of the opinion that the best way to enjoy it is to take the eggs alone and with a mother-of-pearl spoon, just as is done with Beluga caviar. Those who have tasted this product describe it as unique, mineralized and with a mushrooms essence. The price: $118 for 1.5 oz.

Best single malt whisky in 2014
This whisky, which comes from the remote area of Tasmania in Australia, is the recipient of the Best Single Malt Whisky Award in 2014 from the World Whiskies Awards competition. It is made with barley and water from Tasmania and through double distillation. According to experts, it shows excellent balance with aromas of toasted almonds and freshly grated nutmeg. In the mouth, we sense the flavors that derive from the French oak barrels where it matured, as well as hints of honey, caramel, vanilla, raisins and some lingering smoky notes. A real treat for whisky lovers.
Pule
One of the most expensive cheeses in the world
Pule cheese is made in the Zasavica Nature Reserve, located near Sremska Mitrovica, a small Serbian town in the Balkans. The curious process of making this cheese starts with the milk of a rare breed of donkeys that are only found in these lands, and are in danger of extinction. One liter of this particular milk costs about $50 and to get a pound of Pule cheese at least 13 liters are needed. The price of 2 lbs. of this unique cheese is around $1,300, which makes it one of the most expensive in the world. Pule cheese is currently exported to the UK and Germany, where it has had wide acceptance, but will soon be available in other international markets ■
