Let us introduce you to three wines produced in outstanding wineries in an area that is well worth a visit.
Archimedes 2010
PRODUCER: Francis Ford Coppola Winery // REGION: Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley
Francis Ford Coppola feels an immense passion for wine, food and adventure. In fact, the American filmmaker devoted himself diligently to building a cellar and winery, which has become one of the most competitive in the Alexander Valley. The winery boasts wine tasting bars, two restaurants, swimming pool, cinema, a performing arts pavilion and a large park. Within its comprehensive proposal, we found one of its most famous wines, the Archimedes. It is a Bordeaux-style blend made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes, characterized by extravagant and immensely concentrated flavors of black cherry, red plum, sandalwood, and vanilla, alongside soft and velvety tannins.
Reserve to Kalon Vineyard 2011
PRODUCER: Robert Mondavi Winery // REGION: Oakville, Napa Valley
Robert Gerard Mondavi is one of the winemakers responsible for the enviable recognition enjoyed by Californian wines today. A visionary, Mondavi brought fame to his wines through perseverance, and although the winery no longer belongs to his family, their products are still well received by the specialized critics and the general public. The Reserve To Kalon Vineyard 2011 is made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes. It boasts a rich terracotta color and aromas of Cassis liqueur, blackberries, and violets that in the palate bring intense mineral and fruity flavors with hints of balsamic plants, such as rosemary and thyme. With a persistent, pleasant and balanced finish, it is an excellent wine.
Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
PRODUCER: Beringer Vineyards // REGION: St. Helena, Napa Valley
Beringer, founded in 1876, is the oldest winery in the Napa Valley, and also one of the most prestigious thanks to its commitment to excellence and quality revealed in each of its creations. Located in a beautiful area surrounded by vineyards, the winery offers guided visits that include tastings of their great wines. One of their most brilliant proposals is the Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, made with 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot grapes. It is an intense, complex, deep, persistent and elegant wine, which brings up the best of a privileged terroir. ■
