My Experience Making Chocolate Banana Bread
Earlier this week, I decided to switch up my daily routine by adding baking into the mix (no pun intended). I didn’t want to make a typical dessert and knew that I wanted to combine fruit and chocolate, so I began searching for a recipe that incorporated both. After doing some research and figuring out what flavors I wanted to use, I decided to make chocolate banana bread. The recipe only took one hour and 30 minutes to make a loaf, including 10 minutes for prep time. The recipe itself is super easy to follow and fun to make.
Below is the list of ingredients you will need to make this delicious dessert.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 (3.9 ounce) package instant chocolate fudge pudding mix
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup mashed overripe bananas
- 1 cup miniature milk chocolate chips
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup olive oil
Once you have all of your ingredients ready to go it’s time to start baking! To start, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease your loaf pan with butter. By greasing the pan your banana bread won’t stick, and will be easier to transfer to a plate or dish. Once you’ve done that mix your flour, sugar, chocolate pudding mix, salt, and baking powder together in a bowl. The pudding mix is what will give your banana bread the chocolate fudgy flavor you are looking for. After that stir in the bananas, 3/4 of the chocolate chips, eggs, and oil. Once everything is properly mixed together pour the mixture into your greased pan and sprinkle the rest of the chocolate chips on top for an extra bit of chocolate flavor.
As soon as your pan is ready to go, put it in the oven to bake for about 1 hour and 20 mins until it’s done. To check if it’s ready, take a toothpick and gently stick it into the banana bread. If it comes out clean without any excess bread on the toothpick it’s done.
After completing the recipe and trying the chocolate banana bread, I was happily surprised at how it came out. When you think of a typical banana bread you think of a dense, flavorful loaf filled with banana flavor and, sometimes, nuts. This twist on this classic dessert elevated these traditional flavors by adding gooey, fudgy chocolate into the mix.
You should also know that applesauce is a good substitute for olive oil, in case you don’t have any on hand. It sounds unconventional, but it totally works! Out of curiosity I made a second loaf with applesauce and it turned out perfectly and did not noticeably impact the taste of the banana bread. I also discovered that 2 bananas equal 1 cup of mashed bananas, which definitely comes in handy when mixing all of the ingredients together. Bon Appetit!
I would definitely make this dessert again! ■
