Rolex is a brand identified with elegance, precision and exclusivity. Founded 109 years ago, the legendary Swiss watchmaking label still surprises with new models that captivate with their design and precision.
Such is the case of the latest version of their Milgauss model, launched at the 2014 Baselworld Watch Extravaganza in Switzerland. It brings back some old iconic features of the design, operation and engineering of its predecessors, and combines them in a new presentation: the Oyster Perpetual Milgauss Z Blue. The Milgauss was introduced in the 1950’s with the aim of creating a mechanical timepiece able to withstand strong magnetic fields. Finally, Rolex was able to develop a mechanism capable of supporting 1,000 gauss, which inspired its name. Thanks to its technological innovation and unsurpassed functionality, the Milgauss was appointed— at the time— as the official watch of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland.
The new version has a blue sapphire crystal, which since its introduction in 2007 has proven to be the strongest, most sophisticated material in the watch market. Under the splendid dome is the new electric blue dial with the classic design of the original model, but enhanced with beautifully added features: its numbers and markings, as well as a lightning-bolt-shaped seconds hand, are shown in bright orange, giving the watch a contemporary, stylish and elegant twist.
The case of this exquisite piece is made from a solid block of 904L steel. Its faultless socket screw with the Twinlock technology exclusive to the brand offers a perfect seal capable of withstanding more than 300 feet of immersion.
The watch sits on an Oyster bracelet made of distinctive Rolex steel with an Oysterclap clasp, durable and very secure. In this model, Rolex introduced an exciting innovation called Easylink, which allows the wearer to increase or shorten the length of the bracelet by 5mm for additional comfort in any circumstance.
The Oyster Perpetual Milgauss Z Blue has a mechanical-automatic mechanism called Caliber 3131 that includes, for example, a para-magnetic nickel-phosphorus escape wheel (of internal microfabrication) and an oscillator with spiral blue Parachrom of niobium and zirconium alloy. These technologies, also unique to the brand, ensure the accuracy that earned it the COSC certification (Official Swiss Chronometer Control).
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss Blue Z is a timepiece that stands out for its elegance and cutting edge design, the result of thousands of hours of research and development to achieve the most accurate precision. ■
