Origins and evolution
In 1852, Aristide Boucicaut created the first department store in the world, Grand Paris Le Bon Marché. Later, in early 1875, the store sets a new trend in Europe opening an art gallery where painters and sculptors would exhibit their works and—as a result—attract a refined clientele.
In 1984 Le Bon Marché became the luxury store it is today. Located in an elegant Parisian enclave, it combines modernity and tradition in a warm and special ambiance. Since its inception, the display windows of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche have become an additional attraction for passersby for their creativity, their ability to surprise and their usual touches of humor.
An aesthetic and instructive visit
The art gallery has become one of the focal points of the Parisian art circuit. That original idea to attract consumers interested in art and culture to Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche has become a reality in the capital’s vibrant art scene, becoming a permanent venue for exhibitions of established and emerging artists from France and elsewhere. The works are strategically distributed in different spaces, adding a significant aesthetic and intellectual value to the elegant proposals of the Rive Gauche. ■
