Embroidered flowers, jewels and plunge backs were three of the trends that came out of New York Bridal Week last April, and they returned this week to the Gaudí Brides Catwalk at Barcelona Bridal Week, seven days dedicated to the latest wedding looks for 2015.
The designer Rosa Clará was responsible for opening the Week’s shows with a tribute to cinema heroines from Manhattan, like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Josephine Baker and flappers from the 1920s. Clará`s proposals are the most anticipated each season and, once again, her 2015 bridal collection offers very different styles: princess dresses with voluminous skirts and large bows for the most classic bride, as well as skintight mermaid dresses with very low necklines for the most sophisticated. The Catalan dressmaker also introduced knee-length dresses inspired by Coco Chanel and jewel elements like embroidered flowers, pearls and rhinestones, always on very delicate fabrics like silk tulle and chiffon.

In general, the commitment to artisan work and craftsmanship has been a constant among the 22 labels that presented their creations in Barcelona. Superb golden necklaces stood out on dresses from the Jesus Peiro atelier, some very light and others quite powerful, emulating costumes worn by empresses of yore. The public enthusiastically applauded one of his spectacular dresses, embroidered with gold and copper stars.
Hannibal Laguna presented one of the most striking shows of the Week. The Valencian designer from Venezuela is synonymous with glamour and very feminine shapes. His collection was titled One Day, inspired by an imaginary magical garden, with romantic dresses and very narrow waists, confirming pink as one of the colors that will set the trend for the next season. Laguna is one of the favorite designers of the elite thanks to his mastery of classic couture and cinematic vision of fashion, inspired by the Hollywood stars.
Meanwhile, Victorio & Lucchino from Seville gave prominence in their designs to accentuated backs, and paid tribute to lace and the artisan tradition of southern Spain.
Pronovias.
Finally, the firm Pronovias celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special collection that closed the 24th edition of Gaudí Novias with a flourish. The presentation became a big party attended by Camila Alves, Bar Refaeli and Karolina Kurkova, among other celebrities and fashion models. ■
