Breitling defines its watches as special tools for professionals, creating pieces with a functional appeal that differentiate them from the rest. The brand presented its latest Hurricane 12H Avenger which, judging by its size, materials, and operation, can be described as a real military tool.
The first Hurricane attracted attention from competitors for its extra-large size at 50mm in diameter. The piece is made from cutting-edge polymers. The resulting material is six times lighter than steel, three times lighter than titanium, and much more resistant to scratches, magnetic fields, and thermal variations.
With a clear military design and a 24-hour dial, the first Avenger Hurricane 24H is a particularly useful instrument for pilots and soldiers during missions.
Aiming at a wider audience, but still showing the same attributes of the original model, Breitling brings us a new version of this watch—practically the same as the previous—but with a 12-hour dial.
The 12H model features easy-to-read numbers, high-precision chronograph, a calendar window, and refractory elements that allow the user to see the time in all conditions. Even the chosen color scheme responds to tactical/military aesthetics, with black combined with white or the alternative in a contrasting yellow.
Regarding its operation, the watch features an automatic “caliber-modular” B01 4Hz mechanical system, manufactured by Breitling. It has 47 jewels of unidirectional operation, an excellent reserve of 70 hours, and highly resistant sapphire crystals on both faces.
The Avenger Hurricane polymers have a matte and rough texture that favors handling, while the drive buttons located to the right of the watch are finished with a squared anti-slip pattern that the user can operate while wearing gloves.
Despite being a mechanical watch with features aimed at professionals on the battlefield, the Breitling models have strongly attracted the general public. During the launch of Avenger Hurricane 12H, two future models were announced, 44mm and 46mm in diameter, which will cater for those who prefer smaller timepieces.
Breitling continues to lead the professional watch market with state-of-the-art timepieces that appeal to pilots, divers, and military around the world, but also to all lovers of luxury timepieces. Breitling Avenger Hurricane 12H has a starting price of US $8,930. ■
