Chloe’s Fall 2013 accessory line mixes schoolgirl chic with minimalism to catapult the look into fashionable adult. Clare Waight Keller, Chloe’s Creative Director, highlighted “night buses, independent spirit, bare legs, bike sheds and flirting” as inspiration for the line.
On the runway, Chloe paired masculine, utilitarian pieces with femininity and flirtatious elements, and the shoes did not detract from this harmonious union. Chloe’s solid colored boots carry a stacked heel, making them powerful and sexy. Pumps are never just pumps, white and gold notes take this staple to new territory. Other shoes in the collection, accented with peek-a-boo mesh, jewels, snakeskin, and studs, steal the show, often infusing edgy details to classic footwear that cater to all age groups.
The bags for this fall are a bit stronger in style than some of their predecessors, but come in fun, bold colors, showcasing another balancing act that the French firm has, seemingly, mastered. The handbags, mostly made from calfskin, are effortless enough for everyday use. They come in multiple sizes, so those with an affinity for extra-large bags will be pleased. In addition to leather, other exotic materials contribute to the edgy feeling: crocodile, python and gazelle included. Clutches and wallets also come in an exciting blend of bold colors and exotic materials.
With this line, Waight Keller proves that her accessories are never just classic or new, but the perfect union of both. ■
