Château D’Artigny
Located in the Loire Valley, the Château d’Artigny is a great 18th-century-style palatial manor set in a private 65-acre estate with beautiful French gardens. The castle was built in the early 20th century by the famous perfume tycoon François Coty. Now, it is a luxurious five-star hotel that features stunning architecture and Belle Epoque design. Also on the premises there is a new modern spa in the vaulted basement, and the sumptuous restaurant Origan, which serves creative French cuisine and has a magnificent wine cellar with over 20,000 bottles. With lovely views of the surrounding valley and river and finely decorated with wood paneling, gold leaf reliefs and fluted columns, the spacious dining room will transform a simple lunch or dinner into an unforgettable event.
The 65 rooms at Château d’Artigny–Deluxe, Superior, Tradition and Junior Suite–are a stunning homage to the splendor of the 18th century. The elegance and grandeur of its royal style is evident in every corner, with wide staircases, frescoes on ceilings and walls, pillars in the bedrooms, opulent rooms and huge windows overlooking the Indre River, the gardens or the park. The different rooms are located inside the castle or in front of the Pavillon d’Ariane and the Cité des Parfums.
Château D’Isenbourg
The Château D’Isenbourg is probably the most appropriate starting place to visit Alsace wine country. Located a few miles from Colmar, with a magnificent panorama of the Rhine plain, the Château D’Isenbourg was built on the foundations of an ancient 12th-century castle. It boasts 41 rooms in six different categories, from very elegant apartments to the most charming suites. Each has a unique and sophisticated decor and overlook the park, the vineyard or the countryside. The hotel also has a heated pool, indoor tennis court and a fabulous spa with body and facial massages, a Jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish bath.
The hotel’s fantastic restaurant, Les Tommeries, is led by Matthias Lingelser. The young chef creates refined cuisine with Alsatian inspiration, evident in the game dishes such as deer and wild boar—served in a majestic marble dining room. Its windows provide panoramic views of the vineyards and the historic center of the old town of Rouffach. The cuisine at Les Tommeries is worthy of kings and ideal with French wines from all regions, and of course with the famous Alsatian wines. ■
