CONTEXT.
Art Miami’s sister show, CONTEXT was established in 2012 with the objective of showcasing the development of emerging and mid-career artists. In its short history, it has already become a proven destination for serious collectors. Eighty international galleries vetted by the fair’s selection committee will exhibit highlights from their gallery programs, solo exhibitions and curated projects of emerging and cutting-edge talents at the Context Pavilion also in the Wynwood Art District of Midtown Miami.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Aqua Art Miami, considered one of the best events for emerging art during Art Week, has consistently earned critical recognition for presenting vibrant and outstanding international art programs from young and established galleries with strong selections of emerging and mid-career artists. Aqua takes over a landmark art deco hotel in South Beach and presents its range of works with a relaxed vibe and lively atmosphere. The 2014 edition features 47 dynamic exhibitors with innovative interdisciplinary programming, multimedia installations and other happenings, which create an immersive experience for fairgoers at the Aqua Hotel.
(Up) Concept Art Fair; (Down) Design Miami.
Art Week Miami takes advantage of all the city has to offer, and what can be more representative of South Florida than a luxury yacht filled with precious artworks. Concept, a boutique art fair limited to 35 international exhibitors, makes its Miami debut aboard the SeaFair mega yacht, which will be docked in the heart of Downtown Miami at Bayfront Park, close to Museum Park, the Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Frost Museum. Concept specializes on newly available blue chip secondary market work by modern and contemporary artists.
As every year, there is something for design lovers during Art Week. Design Miami, a global forum, brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. Featuring museum-quality exhibitions of 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting and objects d’art, the show engages in exciting collaborations with designers and design institutions. Design Miami 2014 will present panels and lectures with luminaries from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion, as well as unique commissions from emerging and established artists.
SCOPE.
Another inescapable event, Scope Miami Beach will take place from December 3rd – 7th in a monumental pavilion in historic Ocean Drive. SCOPE brings over 100 exhibitors and 20 selected Breeder Program galleries presenting groundbreaking work. The Breeder Program is considered an incubator for emerging talent and praised for introducing new galleries to the contemporary market. There will also be special programs encompassing music, design and fashion.
But every conversation about Miami Art Week must include the spectacular displays and exhibits from the local gallery sector. While South Beach is the home of Art Basel, Aqua and Scope, Miami’s burgeoning art scene is rooted in the Wynwood Art District, where visitors can find the city’s most renowned galleries saving their best and most innovative exhibitions for this week. Those who come to enjoy Miami Art Week should also take some time to visit local museums and art collections, such as the newly opened Institute of Contemporary Art, the Rubell Family Collection, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Frost Museum at FIU, the Bass Museum and many other world class artistic venues that make Miami their home. ■
