Gagosian Gallery. Installation.
In my opinion, four galleries stood out from the rest in this edition: Gagosian, David Zwirner, White Cube and Galerie Gmurzynska. The latter, in particular, brought to the Magic City outstanding pieces by Wifredo Lam, as well a retrospective of the iconic collages created by the legendary architect, Richard Meier.
Collectors and the general public were privy to exceptional examples of contemporary, modern and conceptual art such as Yayoi Kusama’s dotted compositions and the refractory surfaces of Jeppe Hein. Works by Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, and Nick Cave returned to the Convention Center, and although it may seem impossible at this point, the fair presented new drawings by Andy Warhol.

At 65, the German artist, Isa Genzken, received the credit she deserves for her oeuvre, which incorporates various mediums and techniques ranging from sculpture, photography and film to architecture, painting and collage. We also have to thank Ingleby Gallery for presenting the work of the eccentric Frank Walter.
The alliance between Artadia and NADA, (New Art Dealers Alliance) awarded Canadian artist, Ryan Foerster with its annual prize. Foerster, who is only 30 years old, is represented in the U.S. by Martos Gallery, and CLEARING Gallery promotes his work in Switzerland. “NADA has created the ideal platform to promote emerging artists. The Artadia/NADA Award proves it, and Mr. Foerster, this year´s honoree, is an example,” said Christopher E. Vroom, founder and president of Artadia, during the award ceremony.
Art + 4.
In my assessment, the best “discoveries” were found in Miami’s Wynwood Art District, where esPacio ART4 + MIAMI presented the exhibition Spain: Contemporary Strokes, featuring five of the most interesting Spanish artists of the moment: sculptors Mar Solís and Claudia Stilianopoulos, pop painter Antonio de Felipe, portraitist Marcos Tamargo and 3D artist Ángel Agrela.
Of course, there was plenty of entertainment and partying, all sponsored by international luxury firms and high fashion labels. Christian Louboutin in collaboration with Xavier Laboulbenne brought, to the Design District, an exhibition of recent works by Carmelo Tedeschi. Louis Vuitton paid tribute to the legendary architect and designer Charlotte Perriand, with the presentation of La maison au bord de l’eau, with a brunch on the beach behind the Raleigh hotel.
The dinner organized by Gmurzynska Gallery, with the presence of Richard Meier, at the Sea Salt restaurant was also memorable, and Benetton brought its fresh and colorful style, in collaboration, with artist Trey Speegle to an unforgettable soiree. Scope Art Fair was, once again, in charge of the closing party… and left us wanting for more excitement. Until next year! ■
