You can participate in an auction of works by celebrated artists such as Andy Warhol, and do it from your cell phone. New York’s art gallery and online auction house RoGallery makes this possible through a mobile application.

The world of communications has undergone a sharp transformation in the last decade, and this change is further accentuated through the widespread use of mobile phones in recent years. These small devices we carry everywhere allow us continuous access to almost all of the services and products offered in the modern world. In fact, every day it becomes less necessary to have to go to a specific place to buy something because it can be done via cell phone, tablet or computer.

Identifying this new market need, the RoGallery developed the first mobile application in the market which allows users to participate in auctions that offer artworks by famous artists such as Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein and Salvador Dalí.

With a vast collection of over 5,000 works, including paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures, in the last 17 years RoGallery has played a leading role in the modern and contemporary art scene in New York. “Art is a lifelong investment and finding the perfect masterpiece for your home or office will not require any effort thanks to your iPhone or iPad,” explains Robert Rogal, director of the RoGallery website.

The first auctions using the application was held in 2014 and included valuable items such as the sculpture “2365 ° Arc IV” (France, 1941) a sculpture by the great master of conceptual minimalism Bernard Venet, with an estimated cost of $300,000 to $350,000; or a silkscreen portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, made by pop art genius Andy Warhol, estimated between $60,000 and $70,000. Also auctioned was a painting in ink, made in 1960 by the surrealist Salvador Dali, with a price estimated between $150,000 and $175.000.

The RoGallery application not only allows users to access the auctions, but keeps them informed of what is happening during the events, a huge convenience for collectors as they will know in advance, and in just seconds, whether and how to participate. This application streamlines the pleasure of buying art in a practical and efficient way.

RoGallery explains that interested buyers can request additional information about the works on sale via email. These details include more detailed images, provenance and certificate of authenticity. All inquiries will be answered in time before the auction. ■
