Don’t abuse your skin for the sake of a tan. Obviously, this is a tough one, especially during the summer. However, you should do your best to protect your skin from intense sun exposure. “Nothing accelerates aging like ultraviolet rays,” warns Dr. Hevia.
Choose a SAFE sunscreen. If you do spend time in the sun, DON’T forget sunscreen. Your best bet? Inorganic sunscreens that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. They are much safer than traditional organic sunscreens. According to Dr. Hevia, “organic sunscreens contain ingredients that can be harmful to our hormones.” With inorganic sunscreens, you’re not absorbing the chemicals that are present in organic sunscreens. So stock up, and apply frequently!
Drink your H20! Staying hydrated, especially in warm weather, is not only important for your skin but also for your overall health.
Keep your beach bag light by packing this all-in-one essential. After stuffing your beach tote with water, snacks, and magazines, there’s not much room left for skincare products. But don’t skip out! Pack a multipurpose body lotion to keep skin smooth and supple after exposure to saltwater, chlorine and day-to-day activities. Best of all, the cream can be used on the hands, body, neck and face! ■
