All segments compete for the award, and evaluation is based on the following criteria: safety, added value, efficiency, modern design, engineering excellence and performance in accordance with the functionality intended by the manufacturer.
This means that the car that shows better progress and increased competitiveness within every segment will be selected, therefore, in the final evaluation we may find luxury models like the Cadillac CTS and popular models like the new Toyota Corolla. And anyone can win.
This year, the 2014 Cadillac CTS left the rest of the models behind for, among other things, its powerful engine, quality of materials and applied technology, as well as its stellar performance. The aim of the brand was to create a direct competitor to the luxury BMW Series 5 and the Mercedes Benz E-Class, but with the added benefits of being lighter and more powerful than its competition. The CTS also offers more features in all models at a more affordable price.
After countless hours of research and field work, and taking as a starting point the design of the highly successful ATS (the medium size sports model of the brand), the team managed to assemble a new sedan that meets all their goals.
The design of the 2014 Cadillac CTS is narrower, longer and lower than its competitors.
This added length gives the car an elegant and stylish appearance while keeping a sporty presence in the front. The designers introduced high-intensity xenon lights and vertical LED lighting in the fog lamps, and an all-digital TFT display that make the vehicle look more contemporary and competitive than in previous years.
The interior shows Cadillac’s intention to return to the luxury market, with a wider cabin made entirely of noble and natural materials. To name a few: anodized aluminum appliques, natural matte wood accents, speaker covers made with perforated metal and luxurious leather upholstery with visible stitching on the seats, center console, front panel and steering wheel.
The center console features the latest technology with an integrated touch screen named Cue System. The main controls, located behind the wheel, consist of digitized displays simulating traditional needle gauges. High attention to detail was placed on the configuration of the front fender, created in just one piece, and using soft materials to minimize vibrations and exterior sounds. The successful design of the front face of the 2014 Cadillac CTS makes it unmistakable and trendsetting.
With three main engines to choose from, the 2014 CTS sedan offers performance and fuel efficiency in all its models. The engines available are the 2.0-liter turbo with 4-cylinders and 272 hp, the 3.6-liter V-6 cylinder with 321 hp, or the 3.6-liter Vsport with 420-hp. The first has a 6-speed automatic transmission while the more powerful versions have 8 speeds gearboxes to improve fuel efficiency.
This range of engines is optimized thanks to the low weight of the cars, which surpasses its competitors in an average of 300 fewer pounds, resulting in better acceleration marks, final speeds and, of course, fuel consumption.
The 2014 Cadillac CTS stands out because it offers a wide range of advantages, from performance and low fuel consumption to equipment and applied segment technology, which makes it the best car of the year. ■
