Tate Modern Britain is the most visited modern art museum in the world. The Museum’s directive is aware that their objective goes beyond conservation and exhibition of artworks.
Currently and until January 20, 2013, Tate Modern is exhibiting the works of two artists in separate galleries, William Klein and Daido Moriyama. Finding the connection between the two is left up to the viewer, who must perceive how Moriyama´s vision of art could have been inspired and oriented through the work of Klein.
Recognized as two of the most relevant photographers and filmmakers of the 20th century, both artists explore urban life in the big city, New York and Tokyo, through photography. With works from the 1950s to the present, the exhibition shows the affinity between their urgent, blurry and grainy visual style, as well as their shared desire to convey street life and political protest, anti-war demonstrations, gay pride marches and the effects of globalization and urban poverty.

Klein and Moriyama were pioneers in graphic design for cutting-edge publications: Provoke, a magazine where Moriyama and his contemporaries showed their work; and Vogue, which published Klein´s fashion photographs.
However, the most significant part of this exhibition is not only the display of the collection of artworks selected by Simon Baker, but also the intensive series of lectures and conferences, presentations, workshops and performances that accompany the exhibit, as well as the film program.
