February and September bring to New York thousands of fashion editors, stylists, designers, models, bloggers and fashionistas from all over the world to review the latest seasonal fashion trends from American designers during New York Fashion Week.

This season’s most praised designers were Marc Jacobs, Reem Acra, Ralph Rucci, Thom Browne, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, Proenza Schouler, Diane Von Furstenberg and Carolina Herrera. Oscar de la Renta’s presentation drew great coverage because of the designer’s one-time partnership with John Galliano, after his release from Dior. The historic collaboration of these two fashion giants exceeded the expectations of the general public and the specialized press. At 74, Venezuelan couturier Carolina Herrera dazzled with exquisite gowns inspired by the 1940’s icon Eva Peron. Victoria Beckham chose the New York Public Library to present her collection influenced by the 1960s.

This year’s collections were informed by the exotic geographies of Imperial Russia, Morocco and Japan, as well as films by Alfred Hitchcock. Hats and gloves made a powerful return, as well as the juxtaposition of color blocks and prints, plunging necklines, metallic fabrics, and menswear with a feminine touch, almost androgynous.

Many labels took advantage of this last edition of Fashion Week to enter the American market, as is the case with Delpozo from Spain, which not only changed its name, but now has a new creative director, Josep Font, who already has extensive experience in the world of fashion with his own line.

Delpozo´s collection was well received by experts such as Sharon Graubard from Stylesight, and Olivia Palermo and Lauren Santo Domingo attended the show among other notable guests. ■
