EDUARDO PADRÓN.A sunbathed foyer with polished terracotta tiles that leads into the main living room–which opens into the lush gardens and swimming pool–greets us as we enter the house located near Downtown Miami. To the side a vast collection of Venetian glass is housed in elegant glass shelves against the bright yellow backdrop of the siting room. Dr. Padron’s collectibles are rotated according to the season, the mood or the occasional event. This way, every time one visits, the home appears radiantly different.
A copious collection of artifacts, fixtures and art obtained in travels around the world adorn the interior. Dr. Padrón speaks of how simplicity arises from complexity: the eclectic design of his home translates into a single cozy ambiance. Each object has a history behind it, a year when he obtained it and a cultural origin. An 18th century clock bought in New York sits inside a glass dome; above it a Portuguese collection of plates with painted horses fill the wall; objects from Pakistan, China and Florence share the sunroom and a crystal centerpiece that once belonged to the Russian nobility beautifies the formal dining table. Horses are a motif carried throughout the house. “I like the agility and the elegance of the horse. Horses are very masculine and very elegant”, says Padron.
The bedrooms exude baroque elegance with silk curtains, linens and cushioned headboards. Other antiques are strategically placed around the rooms to deliver old world comfort and charm, while the master bathroom compliments the colorful palette of the contemporary kitchen and breakfast room.
Padrón has been loyal to the Art Deco features of the house, but has introduced some fanciful changes like the English style library and an airy Florida room. The result is an enduring expression of a fascinating personality. ■
