The collaborations between Sofia Coppola and Louis Vuitton have lasted more than a decade. In 2007 Marc Jacobs asked her to design the now famous SC bag. But even before, the award-winning film director, producer, writer and model had served as muse and inspiration for the French label. The daughter of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has also produced successful advertising campaigns for the company.

Sofia showed, once again, her support for Louis Vuitton during the latest edition of the Cannes Film Festival. She wore several ensembles from the 2013 Spring/Summer and Cruise collections to some of the most exclusive events, always complementing her look with Vuitton’s iconic accessories, including her emblematic handbag.
Her latest film, The Bling Ring, starring Emma Watson, premiered at Cannes this past May. After the premiere, Coppola and Vuitton hosted a soiree to celebrate those who participated in the production. We should mention that Coppola enlisted the help of Chanel and Louis Vuitton in the creation of the film’s amazing costume design.

But fashion is nothing new for Sofia Coppola. When she was only 15, she was an intern at Chanel, and she would later launch her own clothing line, Milkfed, which in only available in Japan.
Louis Vuitton’s creative director, Marc Jacobs, has often credited his close friendship with Coppola as the inspiration behind some of his collections; she could very well be the woman of his dreams. In 2002 he chose her as the image for his perfume, and this spring he escorted her to the Metropolitan Museum gala.

In 2008 Jacobs invited Coppola to visit Louis Vuitton’s legendary workshop in Asnières, the nerve center of the brand. Her intention was to commission a bespoke handbag just for her personal use, but ended up designing an entire collection of bags and purses, which showcased her preference for timeless pieces and classic lines, with very close attention to detail.

The collaboration between the filmmaker and the French label has been steadily increasing since their first successful collection together. Coppola created several new accessories for the 2012 LV Cruise Collection. That same year she designed a capsule collection for the brand, consisting of a bag, tote and clutch in three different materials, including the classic Vuitton pattern. ■
