This is not just another fashion show. The itinerary exhibition Fendi: Un Art Autre, Another Kind of Art, launched April 3rd in Tokyo, is a real testament to the complexity and exclusivity that surrounds Fendi’s longstanding relationship with fur.
Innovation, craftsmanship, creativity and experimentation are behind this groundbreaking, multi-sensory environment that highlights the nature of the exquisite pieces in the exhibit, treated as authentic works of art, and framed like paintings in a museum. Their delicate textures, soft and seductive, attract the viewer and don’t let go. And this is only in the first gallery.
In another room, 24 iconic pieces, created between 1970 and 2013, are theatrically displayed as sculptures, capturing Fendi’s aesthetic and stylistic development since its founding in 1918.
Curated by Emanuela Nobile Mino, Fendi: Un Art Autre, Another Kind of Art highlights the intrinsic artistic values and excellent craftsmanship behind Fendi`s venerable bespoke traditions. During the opening, master craftsmen demonstrated their talent under the watchful eyes of the visitors, who carefully observed the process of making the garments, from beginning to end. DJ Flavia Lazzarini created the soundtrack for the exhibition, which was organized by Rome’s Studio MDAA.
The exhibition celebrates Fendi’s continued sponsorship of art projects, following recent initiatives like the restoration of Rome’s Fontana di Trevi and other historic monuments in the Italian capital. Fendi Project for Fountains.
The lauded Italian brand, whose accessories have adorned the most fashionable women in the world, continues to influence the fashion world with characteristic good taste and excellent products.
The exhibition will travel the world during the rest of 2013. Fendi will soon announce the list of cities that will host the exhibit. ■
