Nirvana’s creator is the celebrated Australian designer Sam Sorgiovanni, and she was built by the legendary Dutch shipyard, Oceanco. The company takes pride in its personalized approach to building yachts; they work only on a small number of projects at any given time. “Unique and individual are the words that come to mind when trying to explain my goals for this project”, says Sorgiovanni. The inspiration for the 290-f00t superyacht, the 39th largest in the world, was a tropical island rainforest. Indonesian and Balinese design elements merge to create a jungle ambiance within the luxurious yacht, where at least ten varieties of wood were used, including oak, teak and the fine bamboo that covers the floors. In the main salon, luxurious finishes like white onyx, mother of pearl and leather surround an exotic vivarium, which houses chameleons, lizards, water dragons and turtles.
The pool floor lifts to deck level to reveal a large party space, dance floor or helipad. The yacht has generous sports and entertaining facilities. These include ten jet skis, a 3D cinema, and a stage for live performances. This megayacht has enough fuel reserves, water and food to cruise transoceanic ranges at a max speed of 19.5 knots. Edmiston & Company, a competitive yacht charter firm founded in Monaco, but now open for business in London, New York, Mexico City and Antibes, is in charge of brokerage for the Nirvana. Among the festivities that took place for the launching of the Nirvana, the crew and the Oceanco team, were treated to a traditionally Dutch treat: maatjesharing, which consists of the best salted herring prepared in the style of ancient Dutch mariners.
Nirvana is truly a floating place fit for royalty and comes with a price tag of $320 million, but if her next owner is not a prince or a baron, navigating the seas on such splendid vessel will surely make him feel like a king. ■
