To delight collectors and fans, luxury watchmaker Roger Dubuis has created a special edition of its acclaimed Excalibur series. Dubbed Excalibur 42 Skeleton Flying Tourbillon, this exclusive timepiece features a 42mm case, with a thickness of less than six millimeters. Approximately 35 percent thinner than previous models, this watch is also much lighter. Through a stunning sapphire crystal case, its skeleton design exposes the 165 pieces that make up its complex mechanism. Available in only two versions- white gold and pink-gold, this watch features the fluted bezel that has characterized the Excalibur collection since the first model.
The history of Roger Dubuis Manufacture is a string of successes. Established, in the mid 1990s, as a partnership between the watchmaker Roger Dubuis and designer Carlos Dias, the firm´s creations have enchanted experts and collectors since submitting its first two collections: Sympathie and Hommage. Since then, its pieces have combined the excellence of Swiss manufacturing with designs that go beyond fashion. Roger Dubuis is the only manufacture in which all the parts are Geneva Seal certified.
The caliber of the Excalibur 42 Skeleton ensures maximum precision thanks to its differential system –with one-minute full rotation— which allows us to establish the course of the two tourbillons located at 5 and 7 o’clock. This manual winding watch, with a power reserve of 48 hours, is certainly a fine piece that blends technical excellence with avant-garde design. It is sophisticated enough to match a suit, yet it is completely appropriate for daywear. Its black alligator strap has a strong 18k gold buckle that enhances the masculine look of this timepiece while the lightweight exposed mechanism that seems to defy gravity adds a touch of sophistication.
The Excalibur 42 is further evidence that Roger Dubuis attaches great importance to functionality without neglecting aesthetics or performance. “Both must go hand in hand, displaying the same priority level”. This philosophy has made it possible to create specific mechanisms for each new design, respecting the form and equally challenging expert watchmakers and designers. As a result, each piece is a unique work of art.
Although the Richemont Group acquired the brand in August of 2008, the company has remained true to its philosophy and has worked, with great dedication, to create truly unique watches. Every Roger Dubuis timepiece is an exceptional object containing hundreds of hand-finished components with the spirit of Swiss excellence evident in the exclusive certificate Poinçon de Genève, the Geneva seal stamped on the mechanism of each piece. The Price of the Excalibur 42 Skeleton Flying Tourbillon is approximately $164,500. ■
