For this new special edition, Louis Vuitton covered the chromed steel structure of the LC4 with cowhide in a pink sand color, opting for dark brown leather in the foot and headrest. Meanwhile, Cassina contributes the exclusive manufacture and distribution of this and other pieces by Charlotte Perriand, a paradigm of modernity and the chosen designer for the inaugural exhibition of the Italian’s firm first Spanish store, a magnificent 4,300-foot space in Barcelona.
Furthermore, Louis Vuitton also created a capsule collection in 2014 inspired by the bohemian and nonconformist style of the French architect, who joined Le Corbusier‘s atelier in 1927. In her ten years of collaboration with the Swiss master and her subsequent stay in Japan, Perriand explored the possibilities of new techniques and materials that could be adapted to provide optimum human comfort, which was always at the forefront of her design aesthetics.
The hedonism and functionality of Perriand‘s designs were embodied in the LC4, one of the first chairs with an independent mat attached directly to the frame, to which the French firm has added its experience in leather craftsmanship.
This emblematic chaise lounge, an object of desire for those who love interior design and decor, is part of the Icones 2014 collection by Louis Vuitton and is available in select Cassina stores around the world.
Charlotte Perriand was the daughter of a tailor and a seamstress. She was born in Paris in 1903 and was married to Percy Kilner Scholefield. Together, the couple turned their Parisian penthouse into a sort of interior design lab. They had an only daughter, Pernette Perriand, who worked alongside her mother for 25 years. Perriand separated from her husband after 30 years of marriage. She moved to Montparnasse and died in her native Paris in 1999, three days after her 96th birthday, leaving behind a wonderful human and artistic legacy. ■
