Ever the humble mastermind, he paid homage to two obscure artistes, Bavarian artist Nils-Udo’s site-specific environmental installations, and German glass artists Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka in his creations of intricate appliqués, elaborate hand-embroidery and origami folds. The ambiance at the show venue was stark, white and minimal. The background music soft: better to hear the gasps through the audience, as a series of couture-like creations made their dramatic entrance onto the runway.
Font revealed, once again (this is the fourth runway show for Delpozo at NYFW) his consistent eye for detail, and his keen ability to push the boundaries of design, playing with opposites on the scale: voluminous proportions, frothy silhouettes and delicate, fluid fabrics. The collection was strong, all the while communicating the designer’s sharp approach to luxury, craftsmanship and effortless elegance.
Delpozo has achieved somewhat of a cult status with fashion editors and celebrities alike. Devotees such as mega-star Cate Blanchett and style icon Anna Dello Russo have been photographed on the red carpet in Delpozo’s innovative designs.
Each extraordinary piece from Delpozo’s impeccable collection is a celebration of all that is considered to be the height of the feminine and luxury aesthetic in our society today: soft enchanting colors, graceful fabrics, elegant silhouettes and chic sophistication. ■
