The twenty-fifth edition of Art Miami served as a platform to launch Art Miami New York, an extension of the Miami modern and contemporary art fair, which will debut in New York City from May 14 to 17, 2015. The event promises to be one of the most intense and evocative in Manhattan’s cultural calendar this spring.
The opening of Art Miami New York will coincide with the Frieze New York Art Fair, bringing together the art elite looking for the most relevant current artistic trends, which will be exhibited alongside historic works and antiques. During the week, New York’s cosmopolitan cultural environment will witness substantial market transactions of modern and contemporary pieces, thanks to the fairs and alternative programs, as well as the eagerly anticipated deals from the major auction houses.
“We are delighted for the opportunity to bring the quality, brand, style and ambiance of Art Miami to New York during this week, so important for the acquisition of modern and contemporary art,” says Nick Kornilov, founder and director of the fair. “Art Miami New York promises to be a world-class exhibition and hopes to welcome elite collectors, curators, institutions, designers, artists and art lovers to this new annual spring event in a fantastic location.”
It is estimated that about 1,200 artists from more than 60 countries, as well as 100 carefully selected galleries, will be present at Art Miami New York. The works will be displayed in a modern and intimate Pier 94, with the Hudson River as the spectacular backdrop. Located in the heart of Manhattan near the Chelsea art district, museums, and major auction houses, Pier 94 offers more than 12,300 square feet of exhibition space.
Art Miami New York will kick off on May 14 with a VIP event for collectors, gallery owners, sponsors, critics, curators and members of the press, who will enjoy a preview of all the works on view. Later in the evening the gallery will remain open for the enjoyment of the public. ■
