Designers drew inspiration from the idea of transformation for their imaginative interpretations. “I think every girl desires a Cinderella moment in their lives. This story ignites a love affair and fascination with shoes that never dies. The power they have to transform is instilled from a young age, and the fantasy remains alive forever. I wanted to create a shoe that felt magical, with alluring sparkle and a feminine, timeless silhouette evoking those childhood emotions,” said Sandra Choi, Creative Director of Jimmy Choo.
The designs range in style, ensuring that every princess has a favorite. The options include, among others, Jimmy Choo’s shimmering, dressed up pump, or an edgy version, like Jerome C Rosseau’s midnight blue rendition.
According to designer Alexandre Birman: “My vision of the glass slipper was inspired by the timeless and feminine beauty that I believe Cinderella and the Alexandre Birman brand both share. I reinterpreted our classic Johanna pump, this time giving it a fashionable and romantic twist with satin and Swarovski crystals. It’s a shoe I imagine a modern princess would wear.”
Academy Award winning costume designer Sandy Powell created the shoes for Sir Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of the Disney classic using Swarovski crystals.
Globally, the collection will be sold at Paris’ Galeries Lafayette, Excelsior Milano, Tsum in Moscow, Isetan Shinjuku in Tokyo, Level Shoe District at the Dubai Mall and some of the designer’s boutiques.
The shoes are not the only reinvention, though, as the new film, which opened in March, has received praise for its modern and contemporary approach. Fashion lovers will find their perfect sole-mate providing a happily ever after, with or without a prince. ■
