This single malt by the Scottish distillery Dalmore is an homage to the Scottish King Alexander III, who reigned for much of the 13th century. An exclusive whisky, it matures for years in old bourbon, sherry, Madeira and Marsala casks to produce a richly nuanced spirit. With an intense amber color, close to the nose it reveals essences of Seville bitter orange zest, malted cereal, chocolate, vanilla and tropical fruits. In the mouth, it is extraordinarily delicate, with hints of spicy orange and taste that vaguely reminds us of liqueurs like Kirsch, Grand Marnier or Frangelico. Dalmore King Alexander III—an unforgettable whisky—represents elegance and personality for seasoned connoisseurs.
5 Jotas 100% Iberian Acorn Ham
In the Andalusian village of Jabugo, in the province of Huelva, Spain, 5 Jotas— one of the most prestigious and praised companies in the country—produces some of the world’s best Iberian ham. They only use the hind legs of the Spanish Iberian pig, a native breed protected since 1879. These animals have a blackish skin and are allowed to roam freely in the lush meadows feeding exclusively on acorns that ripen and fall off the oaks that abound in this beautiful part of Andalusia. The oleic acids in the acorn infiltrate the meat and helps the development of unforgettable flavours. Iberian ham has the aroma of acorns, but also scents that evoke wet grass and thyme, with oily and fatty flavors of toasted hazelnuts and wildflowers. These organoleptic characteristics make 5 Jotas Iberian 100% Iberian Acorn Ham an emblem of the Spanish culinary heritage.
Champagne Bollinger 2002 R.D.
James Bond‘s favorite champagne is Bollinger, and its 2002 vintage is considered one of the most promising of the early 21st century. It is a marvel of balance and elegance, perfectly developed with pinot noir and chardonnay grape varieties. The result is an extra refined brut with subtle golden highlights and aromas of ripe fruit, quince compote and discrete notes of honey, followed by hints of roasted cocoa, star anise and nutmeg. On the palate, it delivers body and poise with lemon and mineral accents, and a mild bitter note. All you need to know about Champagne. The 2002 Bollinger RD can be enjoyed alone, but pairs gloriously with a Piedmont white truffle risotto, game meat—such as venison or wild duck—or a very mature Gruyere cheese. ■
