Beyond Comfort: Stunning Interiors
in Luxury Yacht

By Walter Raymond

The best venue to admire the latest interior design for yachts and sailing vessels is the Show Boats Design Awards. The celebration brings together the creative talents of the yachting industry to an international audience of super-yacht owners and professionals that reward excellence and creativity with the Golden Neptune trophy. The 2014 edition, held at the magnificent Swarovski Crystal Worldsen Wattens, in Austria, revealed to the world the new trends that will influence design for years to come.

The stylish and luxurious proposals were able to integrate residential comfort with navigation technology. One example is the interior of the yacht Columbus Sport Hybrid 40M from the Italian shipyard Palumbo, created by Hot Lab. Designed to accommodate up to 10 guests in five cabins, its interior is permeated by warm colors and hardwood details made in teak, oak and sycamore.

The soft decorative contrast is provided by pieces constructed using Breccia Sarda and Dark Emperor marble, with spaces of polished stainless steel and leather accessories. All interiors are connected to the outside through large windows that bring in marine hues and abundant sunlight.

The interiors of the Chopi Chopi yacht are dazzling. The design by Laura Sessa Romboli for the vessel built by the CRN Italian shipyard of the Ferretti Group stands out for its large spaces that can house up to 12 guests in six luxurious suites. The exterior design features a new navigation concept that enhances the enjoyment at sea: large windows, balconies and open terraces.

This arrangement highlights the spacious interiors clad in hardwood, marble and leather, complemented by soft pastel tones and magnificent sea views. At the stern, an open platform of more than 1,000 square feet has enough space for a helipad as well as areas for solarium, massage and spa.

The sailing yacht Inukshuk—a personalized Baltic 107 by the Finnish shipyard Baltic Yachts —received the Golden Neptune in the sailboat category for its elegance and optimal utilization of space. The concept of the British Studio Adam Lay incorporates fine details in oak, leather and fabrics that balance the sobriety of the steel and aluminum in the interior. The spaciousness and comfort of its five cabins surprise for a sailboat that is less than 131 feet long.

Finally, the coveted Golden Neptune for the best overall design went to Perini Navi for its new model Seahawk, the first new generation yacht in the 60 meters series from the Italian shipyard.

The French Cristian Liaigre, who masterfully combined the sturdy nautical style with fine contemporary touches, conceived the refined and modern interior. In the décor predominate the warm and dark colors of fine wood that deliver a spacious and comfortable environment. Its interior areas are separated by glass screens that can darken at will, providing privacy or amplitude, as required.
