Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon
The IWC Ingenieur line dates from the 1970s, when designer Gerald Genta became aware of the need to develop watches that would remain accurate even when exposed to electromagnetic fields. Originally launched in 1976 with the legendary Ingenieur SL, today the line has nine models, and the Constant-Force Tourbillon is among the most outstanding. With its main body made of platinum, the watch operates from an automatic system controlled by a constant-force tourbillon patented by the brand, giving it an impressive 96-hour reserve. The second hand is placed on the exposed tourbillon besides the moon phase indicator for both hemispheres, which integrates a tiny compass and a countdown until the next full moon. At five o’clock, a small dial indicates the remaining reserve hours. The technology, design details and materials used in the Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon, are extraordinary features that come with IWC’s great watchmaking tradition and fully justify its cost, which exceeds $330,000.
Grande Complication by Jules Audemars
Audemars Piguet developed its Jules Audemars line based on the technology used on the 1967 automatic Calibre 2120. Inspired by the classic style, this collection offers streamlined and rounded designs that express the brand’s affinity for tradition. The most elaborate model by Audemars Piguet is the Grande Complication, which comes with a titanium body and sapphire crystal on the front and back. The front shows a chronograph with segmented second hand, a carefully detailed perpetual calendar, moon phases and, of course; the main hands tell the time. All this is mounted on visible mechanisms made of precious metals, which highlight the perfection of its manufacture. A classic timepiece, the Grande Complication by Jules Audemars is priced at around $700,000, depending on the model.
