Helicopters have proven to be the most flexible and efficient transport for short distances in overcrowded areas. That's why politicians, executives and celebrities often use them to move around large cities. Nowadays, flying in a helicopter doesn`t mean traveling without luxury or comfort, quite the opposite. There is currently a whole range of luxury helicopters, and a perfect example is the Eurocopter EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style.
In 2009, European giant Airbus’ helicopter division, Eurocopter, join renowned German automotive manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, to develop an aircraft with the spirit of the German firm and to offer potential customers a deluxe version of one of its most successful models, the Eurocopter EC145.
The result is a unique, one of a kind model specially designed by the advanced Mercedes Benz’s design team in their offices in Como, Italy. This is a medium-sized helicopter, with twin-engine and turbine, capable of carrying 4 or up to 8 passengers—according to the desired seat configuration— with the all the comfort that precedes Mercedes-Benz's legendary design. Luxury modular armchairs with leather upholstery, hardwoods, polished aluminum, advanced entertainment systems, ambience LED lighting system with color selection, and double door for passenger boarding are included in the interior cabin of this aircraft, capable of flying at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, with a maximum speed of 246 mph and a range of 422 miles.
The outline of this new version of the EC145 was also stylized starting from a redesign of the helicopter’s nose, a special coating on the skids and a silver metallic paint, which give the craft a sticking look.
"The interior of the EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style represents the brand’s classic design vocabulary and meets the highest expectations in terms of elegance, luxury and comfort," says Dr. Gordon Wargener, chief designer at Mercedes-Benz, who directed the project.
This jewel from Airbus caters to a very select market, composed by individuals who'd use the aircraft both for short family trips and quick transfers within the city. The price of this marvel of design, performance and technology exceeds $8million.
