As the official timekeeper for the World Cup and in celebration of a new edition of the event to be held in Brazil in June of 2014, Swiss watchmaker Hublot introduced a limited edition of the Big Bang UNICO Bi-Retrograde Chrono.
Hublot’s Big Bang is one of the world’s most celebrated wristwatches for men, and on this occasion a limited edition collection has been created especially to celebrate the most popular sports event in the world. It consists of its flagship model combined with a sophisticated chronograph system inspired by the time-measuring specifications of a professional soccer game.
The complex timepiece, with more than 385 components, has on the top—between 10 and 2 o'clock—a retrograde chronograph system with two hands in the colors of the Brazilian flag: the long hand is green and will mark the seconds, and the shorter is yellow, to mark the minutes of playing time. It is the first model from the brand that has a bi-retrograde chronograph, which means that both hands will jump back—instantly—to the starting point after reaching 60 minutes, using the brand’s exclusive UNICO technology.
Likewise, the 45 minute mark is especially displayed in red to signify the completion of each of the two halves that make up the game, and to complete its functionality, at the 12 o'clock position, a window announces the remaining time— first or second half. Also, while working as an ordinary watch, in the 6 o'clock position, it presents a typical two-hand watch, and at 9 o'clock, the continuously moving second hand is exposed. Furthermore, this unique design from the legendary Swiss label has an excellent automatic system that boasts 4 Hz oscillation or 28,000 vibrations per hour.
The limited edition of the Big Bang UNICO Bi-Retrograde Chrono by Hublot, which was presented by Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, the Brazilian soccer king also known as O Rei Pelé will be come in 300 units: 100 numbered pieces of the 18K gold version with carbon fiber bezel, and 200 pieces made of black ceramic and carbon fiber bezel.
For its uniqueness and exclusivity, the Big Bang Bi-Retrograde UNICO Chronos—with a market price of over $45,000—joins the list of Hublot’s collector’s items created for those clients who love both sports and exclusive timepieces. ■
