The town of Andermatt, the jewel of the Swiss Alps, is home to this modern spa, recognized as one of the best in the world.
The Chedi Andermatt: Opulence and Serenity of a Swiss Spa
By Ana Marisol Angarita
There is a uniquely serene spa in the heart of the Swiss Alps, where luxury and wellbeing come together to create an ideal atmosphere for relaxation of mind and body.
At The Spa in The Chedi Andermatt resort, visitors will not only enjoy a broad range of treatments and services in an elegant setting, but they can also enjoy the exuberance of a natural landscape that makes it unique.
Subtle Asian touches complement the alpine chalet style to create a harmonious integration of tradition and modernity set within in a vast space that manages to be surprisingly well organized and welcoming. Covering 2,400 square meters (26,000 square feet), the building’s design pays careful attention to detail through the use of a variety of textures and noble materials such as wood and stone.
Warm and cozy despite its vastness
The resort has a fantastic 35-meter-long pool (115 feet), covered by a glass roof that allows guests to admire the majesty of the Swiss Alps in all their splendor.
The Spa also has a 12-meter (40 feet) long heated outdoor swimming pool, and a gym equipped with last generation equipment, where yoga and Pilates sessions are held. The hydrotherapy area features hot and cold baths, a steam room, bio sauna and Finnish sauna.
The Spa at Chedi offers a broad range of treatments focused on Zen philosophy, inspired by Asian culture and traditions of physical, mental and spiritual balance. Some of the blissful services offered by the spa include therapeutic massages, Asian rituals, romantic ceremonial baths, and facials, using products from British labels such as Ila and REN. The Alpine Mountain Massage is especially noteworthy. The exclusive treatment brings relief to tight and tired muscles through massage techniques tailored to the needs of each client with products from Alpienne, a brand from Tyrol.
This year, the spa will emphasize on the enjoyment of "experiences" for visitors to the resort. For example, starting March 2016, they will introduce a package for pregnant women and their partners to relax them before the baby arrives.
Beyond the spa, a stay at this excellent hotel is an unforgettable experience. It boasts 100 spacious rooms and suites with fireplaces and panoramic windows overlooking the Swiss Alps.
The five-star hotel features some surprising and unique spaces, like the cigar and wine “libraries" or the 15-foot high cheese humidifier. There are also restaurants where the guests can delight on a fusion of the best Asian and European cuisines.
The Chedi Andermatt offers complementary services, such as limousine transfers, personal butler service, ski, and golf. The staff will also provide advice on rent and sale of equipment, as well as valuable information related to climate and environmental factors.
The resort is a strong contender for "Hotel Spa of the Year Award: Western Europe and Scandinavia" at the World Spa & Wellness Awards 2016. Last year, it received a prize as "the most lenient Spa" from Spa Guide 2015 published by Condé Nast Traveller.
The Chedi Andermatt is located 90 minutes away from Zurich and is also accessible from the Italian city of Milan and Stuttgart and Munich, in Germany. ■
